What is Corrective Exercise?
If you are a human being on this Earth, you have muscle imbalances. Some imbalances may form to help us. Ex: an Olympic runner on a track will have imbalances because they run one direction on the track. Often imbalances occur because a muscle is underactive (can’t get it to work) or overactive (can’t get it to release). We all have them, but at a certain point reinforcing these imbalances without addressing them will lead to injury. If you have some new fitness goals you are going after, but haven’t addressed some imbalances in your body, you will continuously reinforce the firing pattern your body is used to. Which may mean some muscles are not working at all while some become increasingly tight, pulling on your joints. Our musculature is always forming along the path of least resistance, which does not always mean our muscles are developing optimally. Whether you are an experienced lifter looking to PR, or a twice a week walker building up the nerve for your first 5k, corrective exercise program will benefit YOU.
